On April 19th, 2023 the EcoServ project was launched
The kick-off meeting of the EcoServ project was launched with the welcome speeches from the YSU Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Mr. Rafael Barkhudaryan, the advisor of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Ashot Khoyetsyan, legal advisor of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Levon Aghasyan, the director of the Institute of Hydroecology and ichthyology of SCZHE NAS RA Mrs. Evelina Ghukasyan, the head of the Expert commission on protection of Lake Sevan (NAS RA) Mr. Bardukh Gabrielyan and Programme manager of Yerevan office of Austrian Development Agency Mr. Vahe Sargsyan. The speakers emphasized the interdisciplinary nature of the project and the need for its implementation for the development of research capacities at YSU and SCZHE NAS. Also, they highlighted the role of the project in the establishment of education in ecosystem services in Armenia. The representatives of Armenian ministries emphasized the project’s significance in promoting sustainable freshwater resource management and preparing specialists in the field of ecosystem services management.
EcoServ project coordinator, Verena Radinger-Peer (BOKU, Vienna), presented the main activities and expected outcomes of the project and spoke about the contribution to SDGs, expressing her enthusiasm for sharing BOKU’s experience with Armenian partners. The EcoServ Project team members then presented the project’s main concepts and methods, highlighting the involvement of multiple stakeholders from academia, business, policy makers, and local communities.
Specialists from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, as well as from international and local development organizations working on nature protection, biodiversity, and freshwater conservation in Armenia and from academic institutions participated in the Kick Off meeting.
